Financial Manager

Role Purpose

To ensure sound financial control, processing and reporting in the region. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the required financial reporting systems, accounting systems, and internal control procedures are in place to enable effective financial management of the region
  • Produces management accounts on a monthly basis, and ensures that the month-end report is compiled and submitted timeously
  • Manages cost and financial accounting processes by producing monthly statutory returns, reconciling General Ledger accounts, managing the budget, and maintaining the regional asset register
  • Manages and ensures efficient year-end processes and the submission of financial year-end statements
  • Facilitates the year-end audit process and assists external auditors in this regard
  • Ensures that pricing in respect of new and existing clients is updated on the system
  • Provides input into project costing as required to ensure profitability
  • Oversees and ensures the effective management of the debtors’ book in the region
  • Reports on operational expenditure on a monthly basis, and as required
  • Signs off on the regional payroll each month
  • Ensures accurate and timeous payment of creditors
  • Approves procurement requests in the region
  • Maintains the financial well-being of the region through daily and weekly cash flow forecasting, and reports status to the MD
  • Management of financial records up to Financial Statement
  • Cash Book and all other GL recons
  • Debtors Management
  • Creditors Management
  • Monthly reports to Group Financial Manager
  • Monthly adjustments, journals and reconciliations
  • Must have Experience or ability to Learn the following systems:
    • Pastel Evolution
    • VIP Payroll
    • Microsoft Excel

Cost Management

  • Compiles and manages the regional budget

People Management

  • Ensures that staff are trained, skilled and that their expertise is optimally applied
  • Ensures that the working environment contributes to improve staff morale and increase productivity
  • Training staff on all aspects of operations pertaining to their roles
  • Create, drive and foster a high performance culture within the operations team

Requirements, Education and Experience

  • Recognized accounts qualification
  • Postgraduate qualification is business administration will also be advantageous
  • Professional membership with an accredited accounting body
  • At least 10 years’ experience in a financial management role in a warehousing or logistics environment
  • Must have experience operating at a strategic level
  • Must have solid experience in managing performance of teams and handling labour relations matters
  • Must have a flair for operations
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must have a flair for operations, hardworking and pay attention to detail
  • Must be a team player
  • Must have business acumen and be able to communicate with senior to top management
  • Must be prepared to travel to sites
  • Must be highly computer literate on Microsoft, VIP, Pastel Evolution
  • Demonstrate excellent organisational skills
  • Must have experience in tender document preparation
  • Must have own vehicle and valid driver’s licence
