Dealership Financial Manager

Overview of role

The position involves overseeing all areas relating to the financial planning, consolidating and controlling all financial-related activities of the business. Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets, consolidation and reporting. The position also required monitoring of adherence to financial, internal and group control and policies.

Job description

Strategy, Planning and Management

  • Assess and evaluate financial performance of the dealership with regard to long-term operational goals, budgets and forecasts
  • Ensure implementation of policies, procedures and processes as deemed appropriate by the senior leadership team and group head office

Forex, vehicle costings and banking

  • Monitor daily foreign currency exposure in line with group polic
  • Maintain and ensure monthly forex revaluations are correct and accurate
  • Ensure vehicle costing are correct and that stock is correctly costed
  • Maintain and ensure banking mandates are adhered to, release payments and manage banking transaction in line with agreed facilities and policies

Financial Analysis, Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Review and analyse monthly financial results and provide recommendations on variation to budget
  • Develop and maintain monthly operating budget and annual company operating budget
  • Review of weekly/monthly Operational report for MD/CFO review

Accounting, General Ledger, Administration and Operations

  • Supervise the accounting department to ensure the proper functioning of all systems and databases
  • Prepare and ensure that the General Ledger recon file is complete both balance sheet and income statement reconciled and agreed to relevant third party confirmations
  • Oversee management of the asset register and ensure biannual physical verification
  • Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls, Head Office policies and financial procedures
  • Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools and control systems
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial and management reporting
  • Preparation and communication weekly, monthly and annual financial results including.
  • Weekly & monthly financial reporting
  • Weekly dashboards
  • Management/ trading accounts
  • Review monthly audit file (Balance sheet and income statement)

  • Supervise Accounts Receivable management and provide guidance relating to the collection process
  • Ensure adequate controls are in place to ensure the safe custody of assets

Finance and Accounting Team Management

  • Mentor and develop the dealership accounting team

Adhoc requirements

  • Tax awareness and completion of VAT, company tax and other statutory payments and reconciliations
  • Audit engagement and assistance to ensure completion of annual audits

The successful candidate will:

  • Be able to assume a strategic and operational management role
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with IFRS, regulatory laws and tax reporting
  • Oversee the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organisation including: organisational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports
  • Provide leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long term strategic financial objectives
  • Ensure credibility of Finance department by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts
  • Ensure that all policies and procedure are adhered to

Requirements, Education and Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in accounting or equivalent
  • 5 – 10 years’ relevant experience
